Dong Jianguo, Deputy Minister of Housing and Urban Rural Development, led a Chinese government delegation to attend the meeting and delivered speeches at the high-level dialogue on "Adequate Housing for All" and the special meeting on promoting the localization of sustainable development goals through multi-level governance. They also took the opportunity of the conference to carry out a series of bilateral activities.
At the high-level dialogue on "Adequate Housing for All", Dong Jianguo introduced China's successful experience in using appropriate housing policies to promote poverty reduction, job creation, and crisis recovery from three aspects: achieving rural housing safety and security in poverty alleviation, constructing and raising affordable housing, and promoting the renovation of dilapidated urban houses.
At the special meeting on promoting the localization of sustainable development goals through multi-level governance, Dong Jianguo stated that the Chinese government has achieved positive progress in multiple sustainable development goals by organically integrating the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development with the implementation of medium - and long-term development strategies such as the 13th Five Year Plan, 14th Five Year Plan, and 2035 Vision Goal Outline. At the same time, China actively supports the United Nations Human Settlements Programme in promoting the implementation of sustainable development goals in global cities through activities such as World Cities Day and the Global Sustainable Development City Award (Shanghai Award).
During the meeting, Dong Jianguo met with the Executive Director of the United Nations Human Settlements Programme, Rosbach, and exchanged views on the next steps of cooperation between the Programme and China. He also had in-depth discussions on expanding cooperation areas and methods.
Dong Jianguo also held multiple bilateral talks with counterpart ministers from Kenya, Azerbaijan, Malaysia, Senegal, South Africa, Uzbekistan, and other countries to strengthen cooperation in the fields of housing and urban-rural development, establish exchange and coordination mechanisms, and negotiate and sign cooperation agreements.
Guo Haiyan, the Permanent Representative of China to the United Nations Human Settlements Programme and Ambassador to Kenya, fully participated in the above-mentioned activities.
