Recently, the 2025 China ASEAN Mayors' Forum was held in Guilin, Guangxi. As one of the series of activities of the 2025 China ASEAN Ministerial Roundtable on Construction, this forum is themed "Building a Better Home and Building Sustainable Development of China ASEAN Cities". The attendees had in-depth, pragmatic, and fruitful exchanges and discussions on topics of common concern such as urban renewal, new city and new area construction, and cultural heritage protection. Li Xiaolong, Deputy Minister of Housing and Urban Rural Development, delivered a speech at the opening ceremony.
Li Xiaolong pointed out that building livable cities for the future is a major issue facing countries around the world. While promoting high-quality urban development, China has always adhered to an open and cooperative attitude, committed to expanding external communication channels, and continuously deepening mutually beneficial cooperation between China and ASEAN in the field of housing and urban-rural development. I hope this forum can promote normalized exchanges and cooperation at the city level between China and ASEAN, consolidate development consensus, expand cooperation space, share development experience and achievements, strengthen project cooperation and docking, and provide new momentum and create new prospects for improving urban quality and building a closer China ASEAN community with a shared future.
At the meeting, governors, mayors, and representatives of the ASEAN Secretariat from Brunei, Cambodia, Malaysia, Myanmar, the Philippines, Thailand, Vietnam, Timor Leste, and other countries, as well as three Chinese mayors from Guilin, Guangxi, Dali, Yunnan, and Dezhou, Shandong, and representatives from China Construction Group, made exchange speeches. Before the end of the forum, the China Association of Mayors signed cooperation agreements with the Vietnam Urban Association and the Malaysia Local Government Association.
During the forum, the attending guests visited and inspected the China ASEAN Building Technology Exhibition, as well as projects such as Guilin's water system management, urban renewal, and traditional building protection. They also held discussions and exchanges between ASEAN mayors and Chinese enterprises.
